Ewemama, Village of Joy, Rwentobo, Uganda

In the summer of 2024, I spent a month volunteering at the Village of Joy Mission in Uganda, an initiative managed by the Franciscan Friars O.F.M. and the Ewemama Onlus organization. My main responsibility was to accompany and spend time with the children—around 150 in total—during playtime and various activities. These children are supported by the mission’s educational projects, which include an early childhood school for kids aged 3 to 7, a special education program for disabled youth, and a shelter for orphaned and vulnerable girls.

While my primary task was to provide companionship and support, I also had the unique opportunity to contribute as a photographer. I was asked to document the mission’s projects and the dedication of its 100 staff members. These photos have been used to promote the mission's work through fundraising, grant applications, and media appearances, including an interview with the founder lay missionary Giorgio Scarponi on RAI 1 Tv Program’s “A Sua Immagine”.
